“Filmmaking is image and sound captured with emotion. It’s not all about the narrative, and it’s not all about the medium.

It’s the brilliant point where they intersect.”

Mehar (pronounced /mā/ like the month, /(h)er/ like the Spike Jonze film) is an immigrant making home in this world. Born in India, she grew up in Punjab, Ontario and New Jersey, and worked at nonprofits in Johannesburg and Mumbai, before pursuing a graduate degree in Documentary Film at New York University. Her diverse upbringing and experiences help her connect and collaborate on the various creative projects that come to the studio. In her time at Gigantic, Mehar has had the opportunity to work on several films and TV series, including the iconic music documentary DIG! XX. Beyond the studio, she served as director’s assistant on Sleeping Partner, part of a fiction anthology series streaming on Netflix produced by Oscar-winning production company Sikhya Entertainment, and is a post-production assistant on the upcoming feature documentary Checkpoint Zoo, directed by Joshua Zeman. She is also a pre-screener for the PBS series POV, America’s longest running showcase of nonfiction films. At NYU, Mehar studied filmmaking and screenwriting, including a creative nonfiction class with Salman Rushdie, and was a 2022 NY Emmys Grantee and South Asian Journalists’ Association Scholar. She is a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, A-DOC, and Video Consortium.
