As 2024 comes to a close Gigantic Studios would like to wish a hearty, happy holiday season to all of our friends, collaborators, partners and the filmmaking community at large. We feel fortunate to be surrounded by such talented and hardworking creatives, and we’re excited to continue providing unparalleled post services in 2025 to the brilliant people that make our work so worthwhile.
To celebrate the films and filmmakers that made 2024 such a success, we’d like to acknowledge some of the inspirational projects that packed our year with creative fulfillment, as well as the efforts of our team, who dedicated themselves to enhancing the projects with impactful sound design. Most recently, Gigantic Studios saw three feature documentaries make their world premiere at this year's DOC NYC Film Festival. You can read more about these engaging films below…
Out of Plain Sight: When a scientist alerts LA Times reporter Rosanna Xia to eerie-looking barrels on the seafloor, they discover an environmental horror – as many as half a million barrels of DDT waste have been quietly dumped into the ocean. Rosanna, also the film’s co-director, embarks on a mission to connect the dots between the poisonous chemicals, sick sea lions, and consequences for public health.
Anxiety Club: An intimate and riotously funny look at anxiety through the eyes of contemporary comedians, both on stage and in the therapist’s office. Emmy-winning producer Wendy Lobel makes her feature debut in this candid exploration about living with anxiety while juggling standup performances, sketch videos, meditation, therapy, and everyday life.
All God’s Children: To combat the rising racial and ethnic tension in their Brooklyn communities, Rabbi Rachel Timoner and Reverend Robert Waterman decide to join hands and unite their congregations. However, challenges emerge when the Rabbi and the Reverend lead delegations to their respective places of worship. Acclaimed documentary director Ondi Timoner tactfully follows the two communities' efforts to find common ground. Will their differences drive them apart, or will the dream of unity and justice prevail?
Earlier in the year, Gigantic Studios undertook the sound editorial and mix for Apple TV’s epic 10-part documentary series, The Dynasty, which charts the historic rise of The New England Patriots through incredible access to the figureheads in the organization – quarterback Tom Brady, owner Robert Kraft, and coach Bill Belichick. At this year’s DOC NYC Pro Conference, Gigantic Studios hosted a panel discussion featuring director Matthew Hamacheck, RCO’s colorist Seth Ricart, and our creative director and re-recording mixer Tristan Baylis, all of whom collaborated on the series. Moderated by producer Pagan Harleman, The Dynasty team discussed navigating the essential and under-appreciated post-production process and how to tackle the creative complexities of sound design, mixing, picture conform and color grading for nonfiction projects of all budgets.
Much gratitude again to all our collaborators and friends this year, and lots more to come in 2025.
